<p>Sampler consists of a pair of circular conical elements, the lower one being of larger dia., suspended on a rope. Over these fits a cylindrical cover which can be independently lowered. This cover is of smaller dia. than the lower element and rests on it. A vol. of liq. is trapped between the two elements when the cover is lowered. If the sampler is then raised, the liquid can be run off into a sample vessel. Used esp. for sampling water at various depths, e.g. in wells or reservoirs. Arrangement allows the sample to be taken precisely at the depth required.</p> |
