By actuating the, at least three, control elements (brake, index, gears, clutch, flasher light, exhaust brake) which function in dependence of the traffic conditions, the delay of the request signal to the driver is controlled and, under such road conditions under which the monitored control elements are not actuated, after a specific time period a request signal is emitted according to which - if the reaction required to cancel the request signal on the part of the driver remains absent - a warning signal and subsequently an alarm signal which is perceptible also in the vicinity of the driver is emitted. The reaction time of the motor vehicle driver is recorded with the aid of a tachograph. In the actuation circuit of a self-holding circuit, there are switches which are connected in parallel and which - with the exception of one which serves to switch the device - are operatively connected to the controlled elements of the motor vehicle. The self-holding circuit is adjoined by a holding circuit with a limited duration with the aid of which the circuits of the request signal, of the warning signal and of the alarm signal can be actuated.
