Process for the preparation of novel 1,2-diphenyl-4-cyano- cyclohex-1-ene derivatives

Novel 1,2-diphenyl-4-cyanocyclohexyl-1-ene derivatives of the formula (I) <IMAGE> which have an inhibitory effect on the growth of plants are prepared by Diels-Alder condensation of acrylonitrile with a diene of the formula (II) <IMAGE> in which U, V, W, X, Y and Z independently of one another denote hydrogen, halogen, C1-C4-alkyl, C1-C4-alkoxy, C1-C4-alkylthio, NO2, CF 3, COOH, CN, OH, SO3H, NH2 or -NH(C1-C4-alkyl) or -N(C1-C4-alkyl)2, it also being possible for U and X in each case to additionally denote an unsubstituted phenyl radical. The compounds can also be used as intermediates for the preparation of agrotechnical active substances.
