PURPOSE:To obtain a device suited to the purpose, by measuring the distribution of intensity of gamma-ray radioactive nuclide by means of a gamma-ray detecting element which ascends and descends in a guide tube by a driving mechanism being enveloped by a shielding body having slits on the side, made from Ta, W or Pb. CONSTITUTION:A radiation detecting apparatus 1 has a guide tube 12 inserted in an organic solvent layer 32 and aqueous nitric acid solution layer 33 in a solvent extraction apparatus tank 31 located in a reprocessing facility, and a lifting tube 101 is raised or lowered by a motor 111. From slit 121 in a shielding body 122, gamma- rays are radiated, and an ionization chamber gamma-ray detecting element 123 transmits the gamma-ray intensity information at a position corresponding to the position in the tube 12 to a recorder 142 by way of am ammeter 141. The poisition of the element 123 in the tube 12 at the time of information transmission may be read on a position signal device 151 through the rotation information of rollers 121, 113. By moving the same gamma-ray detecting element up and down in the guide tube, the gamma- ray intensity at each position is measured, so that the relative difference in gamma-ray intensity between the organic solvent layer and aqueous nitric acid solution layer may be easily obtained.
