A chair shell 1 or frame is constructed, in a one-step moulding process, in the form of a single hollow unitary body of plastics material, such as nylon, polypropylene or polythene. Preferably, a heated divided mould is partially filled with plastics material, which is brought to settle, in known manner, on all surfaces of the mould. Metal plates 2 and other reinforcing members may be embedded in the plastics material, to provide anchorages for bolts securing legs and arm-rests. Alternatively, legs may be moulded integrally with the chair shell. To increase rigidity, the body walls may be formed with ribs or the body may be partially or completely filled with foam rubber.</p> |
