Gas operated belt slack cancelling retractor - has pyrotechnic charge and volatile fluid producing turbine-driving gases

The seat belt retractor is fitted with a slack-cancelling device which is activated by an electric impulse from a sensor. The belt (4) is wound on a hollow shaft (3) which carries on one end the blocking mechanism (30, 31) and the spiral spring for the retracting operation. The shaft (3) is hollow with end adjacent to the blocking mechanism containing pyrotechnic charge (11) and primer (12). In axial direction the hollow shaft is filled with a volatile fluid (22), which, when the pyrotechnic charge (11) is set off acts vis orifice (29) onto the volatile fluid transforming it into gas which, by expanding through distributing vanes (26) acts on reactive vanes (8) inside the other end of hollow shaft (3). The subsequent rotation takes up the belt slack.
