[Also in Division C3] A laminate comprises at least two laminµ adhered together by a water-based adhesive which is applied in the form of a synthetic latex dispersion comprising (1) an interpolymer of (a) a monomer containing at least one carboxylic acid group and (b) one or more monomers or polymers copolymerizable therewith; and (2) a water-soluble polymeric thickener (see Division C3). One lamina may be a metallic foil and the other cellulosic material, e.g. paper. In examples the following adhesives are applied to aluminium foil which is then laminated with paper (a) an aqueous dispersion of carboxylated (acrylic acid) styrenebutadiene interpolymer, ammonium hydroxide, cross-linked polyacrylic acid; (b) as (a) together with ammonium fluoride; (c) as (a) but using an acrylic interpolymer, ester/acid, all three compositions containing also an oilsoluble epoxy resin urea-formaldehyde resin or melamine formaldehyde resin.</p> |
