<p>Prepn. of p-nitrophenols (I) by oxidn. of the corresp. p-nitrosophenol (II) at a known temp. in an acid medium (III) of controlled strength. (III) must be capable of dissolving at least slightly (II). also iit contains nitrate and/or nitrite ions and/or an oxide of nitrogen, and it is kept always intimately in contact with the oxygen. The process is fast and easily regulated (I) are obtd. in high yields and highly pure difficulties from polynitro substitution are eliminated or substantially reduced. (II) may be chosen fro 3-chloro, or 2-bromo, or 2,3 or 2,5-dichloro-4-nitroso phenols, but is esp. p-nitrosophenol or p-nitroso-m-cresol.</p> |
