A filing cabinet for a card index system has double sided walls (1, 1b). The base (3) is provided with slots to receive the tongues (6b) of the card supports (6). Slots are also provided in the inner walls for hooks (11) to support a third wall (9, 10) and so make the cabinet suitable for narrower cards. The cabinet can also be adapted for use with cards having a smaller vertical dimension. This is done by fixing a false door on a different type of hook which fits in the slots in the inner walls (1b).
