Isotropic fibre fleece is mfd. from an anisotropic fleece in which the fibres are randomly oriented by passing the anisotropic web through a nip of rollers, one of which is an embossing roller, to produce an anisotropic pattern of discrete joins. The pattern extends at an angle with the main axis of orientation of the fibres in the anisotropic web. Pref. the pattern, whose elevation has an aspect ratio of approx. 5:1 (pref. less than 2:1), has rectangular, square, ovate or rhombic configuration, in which alternate rows are staggered w.r.t. one another. The pattern may extend at an angle of 45-135 degrees (pref. 90 degrees) w.r.t. the main axis of orientation. |
