The first two numbers of the postcode are coded according to frequency. The system ensures that when the first two numbers are scanned a relay switches on a further relay which is so programmed that it brings and optimum binary code on the letter at a specific place. The remaining decimal numbers of the post code are coded with a special 2 x 2 bit sorting code on the letter at a specific point so that when the letter is passed out the remaining numbers of the postcode can be coded in optimum way.
