The compass (10) is esp. suitable for ski orienteering and is worn on the outside of the hand at or near the base of the thumb. It does not interfere with operation of the ski-stick or other tools. It avoids the long fixing and removal time of compasses with straps and the danger of the strap fouling the stick etc. The compass base (11) has a flange (11a) which is attached to a special flange (15) fixed on a ski glove (14). The special flange attached to the glove is made of flexible material such as leather.
