Backflushing filter with double filter area - each of which can be individually backflushed while the other is on stream

Filter which can be backflushed has inlet and outlet branches. It is cylindrical in form and the filter elements of which there are two are also cylindrical. The flow enters the centre of the cylinder and flows out through a surrounding annulus. Down the centre is a valve arrangement by means of which the flow through one of the elements can be reversed. By moving this device up or down, either the upper or the lower elements are washed clean. The other element remains on stream when this is being done. Used esp. for water filtration. Prevents bacterial growth by avoiding dead spaces, so that all the filter can be effectively and regularly backflushed.
