The stator (1) for the engine synchronous ignition pulse generator comprises a spool (112) onto which the coil (111) is wound. The spool has radial and, at the outer edge, axial slots (1121) into which ferromagnetic hair pin shaped clips (13) fit to form the stator poles (14). The assembly is inserted into a tubular housing (12). The design both simplifies the construction and makes it more accurate. The smaller space requirements also serve to reduce stray fluxes and their undesirable effects. The rotor has permanent magnet poles, and revolves in the stator bore with a small air gap.
