1,152,079. Purifying alkylphenols. UNION RHEINISCHE BRAUNKOHLEN KRAFTSTOFF A.G. 22 Sept., 1967 [7 Oct.. 1966], No. 43226/67. Heading C2C. Alkylphenols obtained by reacting phenol with MeOH, EtOH or the corresponding ethers or halides in presence of an aq. solution of ZnX 2 with a lesser quantity of HX (X= Cl or Br) are treated for the removal of catalyst ingredient residues prior to distillation by (a) depressurizing to atmospheric pressure before and/or after addition of a water-insoluble inert organic solvent, (b) separating the organic phase, (c) passing this with water over a solid basic Zn compound, (d) separating the organic phase, (e) washing it with water, (f) preparing a catalyst suitable for recycling from the aq. layers by distilling off water and optionally adding HX, and (g) distilling the organic layer.
|
