<p>A coke oven door is sealed against the door frame by a flat iron knife edge which is urged against the frame by a leaf spring. Outside the knife edge and parallel to it, a soft metal seal strip urged both the knife edge against an internal seal strip and can be pressed by adjusting screws against the door frame. The soft metal seal absorbs irregularities in the frame surface which the knife edge cannot cover. The combination of two seals protects against the deposit of condensed and saves extensive adjustment.</p> |
