High speed tool steel - has improved wear resistance and a higher carbon, chromium, molybdenum and silicon content

The steel has the compsn. (wt.%) 1.02-1.10 C, max. 0.50 Si, max. 0.4 Mn, 4.5-5.0 Co, 4.0-4.5 Cr, 4.7-5.2 Mo, 1.8-2.1 V, 6.0-6.7 W, balance Fe and the usual impurities. The lower limit of C, Cr, V and Si are pref. raised by 0.02%, 0.2%, 0.1% and 0.3% resp. The steel in cast condition is hot deformed, heat treated hardened and annealed. It may be produced by powder metallurgy. The steel is economical and has good toughness and improved wear resistance. Used as high speed tool steel for cutting austenitic and heat resisting alloys and for the production of rectangular or circular saw blades, and miling cutters.
