Ceramic washer for use in fixing ceramic fibre and similar claddings to the inside walls of furnaces, designed to increase the pressure area of the fixing device, consists of a ceramic disc with a central hole and a slot running from the hole to the outer edge. The ceramic is pref. Al2O3 or an aluminium silicate. The washer forms part of a fixing device consisting of a rod or pipe with an upset head or flanged end which bears against the ceramic washer to hold the cladding in place. The rod may be a simple bolt, part of or all of which is made in the ceramic. It may also be a flanged fluid tube, which penetrates part way through the necessary through hole in the cladding, but having in the fluid end another hold for abolt, opt. protected with another similar ceramic washer. The device prevents passage of gas, materials etc through the fixing hole. The washer has improved mechanical strength. |
