The signal is in an AMI or modified AMI code, and the frequency is shifted by an integral multiple of the bit repetition frequency. Pulses representing the "O" bits in the signal to be modified remain unchanged, while its pulses representing the "1" bits are replaced by a group of odd number n of alternating pulses. Polarity of the first pulse in the group corresponds to that of the pulse being replaced. This results in the shifting of the main energy range by (n-1)-times half the bit repetition frequency, and the output signal pulse repetition frequency is n-times the input signal frequency.
