In a rotary table bottling machine, a liquid inlet pipe 6 leads to a filling chamber 2 from a pressurized filler bowl (not shown) at a lower level, and the end 5 of a filling pipe 24 above the inlet pipe is controlled by a valve 4, opened, &c. by liquid level actuation of a float 11 working with opposed opening and closing springs 26, 8. On raising a bottle 21 to the filling position shown, a lever 22 is turned to open a valve 19 in a gas passage 18. A control shaft 9 is angularly positioned so that an eccentric 16 opens a valve 14 and thus connects a pipe 12 leading from the high pressure gas space of the filler bowl to the pipe 18, and through an open float valve 20 to the bottle 21. The valve 4 is held closed by an eccentric 10 on the shaft 9, and gas pressure is built-up in the filling chamber 2 as liquid is forced in through the pipe 6. Next the shaft 9 is turned to release the valve 4, which is opened by the float 11 acting against the spring 8; accordingly liquid flows through the valve 4 into the bottle 21, until bottle pressure and gas pressure in the filling chamber 2 are balanced. The shaft 9 is now turned to close the high pressure gas valve 14 and instead open a low pressure gas valve 15, which lowers the pressure in the bottle 21; simultaneously, the eccentric 10 releases the liquid valve 4 completely. Liquid flows into and fills the bottle 21, until it enters the gas passage 18 and closes the float valve 20. Further rotation of the shaft 9 closes the low pressure gas valve 15 and again opens the high pressure gas valve 14. High pressure gas then blows back excess liquid from the neck of the bottle 21 through the filling chamber 2 to the filler bowl, which is at a lower level, until the level of the liquid in the bottle falls to the level of holes 25 in the filler pipe 24. As the liquid level in the filling chamber 2 falls, the float 11 lowers the valve 4 which finally closes. The shaft 9 is once more turned so that the eccentric 10 holds closed the liquid inlet valve 4, the high pressure gas valve 14 is closed, and the low pressure gas valve 15 is opened. The bottle 21 is then withdrawn, the lever 22 closing the valve 19. The low pressure gas valve 15 is closed by turning the shaft 9.</p>
