The tubes (27) of the heat exchanger, which consist of borosilicate glass are encapsulated at both ends in the tube plates embedded in a metal frame (43). The tubes are supported upright for the purpose of production. A perforated plate (41) which is surrounded by the frame (43) is pushed over the upper tube ends. The mould space formed by the tube ends, the perforated plate and the frame (43) is partially sealed with silicone rubber (42). The silicone rubber remains elastic even after curing and adheres to the tubes (27), the perforated plate (41) and the frame (43). The tube plate can also be produced entirely from silicone rubber. No perforated plate is then required. A removable pattern plate is used to delimit the mould space. It is also possible to cover the tube plate on one or both sides with a protective foil. By contrast with the known heat exchangers, in which the tubes are plugged individually into sleeves provided in the tube plate, the invention makes it possible for a heat exchanger of a more robust design to be produced in a much simpler way. <IMAGE>
