PURPOSE:To provide an oil pressure regulator for an automatic transmission which accomplishes an excellent downshift property over a widely variable range of operational condition of the car by adapting the downshift property to the operational condition. CONSTITUTION:An automatic transmission comprising a high clutch 1 and a low clutch 2 performs gear shifting with the change of engagement therebetween. In this transmission, a change-over valve 3 to be switched to an upper or lower position according to the equilibrium between the throttle oil pressure Pth and the governor oil pressure Pgo, a high speed shift accumulator 33 and a low speed shift accumulator 34 connected respectively to an oil passage 11 for the clutch 1 and an oil passage 13 for the clutch 2, valves 60 and 61 to control a part of a pressure oil supply route to the clutch 2 as well as control a back pressure drain respectively for both the accumulators 33 and 34, an upshift timing valve 99 and a valve 102 to control the pressure of the oil being fed to a back pressure chamber 39 in the accumulator 33 are incorporated.
