Device preventing feeding a textile machine with cans contg. the wrong fibre rovings is constituted by a coding which is carried by the can and which is read by a decoding appts. provided at a can stacking location. Pref. the coding takes the form of >=1 selectively, vertically spaced rings at the lower end of the can, the rings being arranged in a binary manner and formed of strips which are capable of being read optically, magnetically or electronically.
