Tear-open lid for carton - has collar with hole formed in one end of strip between tear lines

The tear-open lid has a strip of material defined by two lines extending diametrically across it and pulled out from between them. A collar with a hole is formed in one end of the tear-open strip (3), and a pre-shaped grip ring, of plastic with a rounded inner surface, can be fitted in the hole. The surface of the lid round the hole towards the lid edge can be partly cut through, the cut line running round the collar and parallel to the edge and extending to the tear lines (4) on the opposite sides of the strip.
