The check valve for corrosive substances, is made of e.g. plastics material, and does not incorporate a metal spring. The housing (1) is cylindrical with an open top recessed to support a washer (5). The bottom is also open, with a smaller dia. opening (1b) with a flange (1a) to support the valve member (2). The latter is hollow, with an opening through the top face (2c) and three equally spaced radial side openings. The interior of the housing can be stiffened with vertical ribs (4). The inside dia. of the washer may give an upper opening (1c) which is the same dia. as the bottom opening (1b). The ratio of the dia. to height is between 1. 5 and 3. 5 to 1.
