The shear key is for incorporation in roller (3) or ball bearings subjected to axial thrust in either direction, providing axial location for demountable two piece (4, 4') rings forming the outer bearing races. The assembled rings provide an annular channel (7) of rectangular section or similar in the joint (5) vicinit, the channel being engaged by a rib (8) projecting from the housing (9) to form the key. The channel may be formed by complementary rectangular rebates (6, 6') of the adjacent external corners of the pieces (4, 4'), or by a single rebate (6) on a corner of piece (4) only. An alternative construction may utilise a floating key ring engaging aligned channels in the mating faces of the races and the housing. |
