PURPOSE:To prepare the title beads capable of affording molded products (e, g, food container, etc.) with reduced water permeability without extending the cycle time for molding operation, by covering the beads surface with a sucrose ester (or its derivative) CONSTITUTION:The objective beads can be prepared by covering the surfaces of expandable styrene resin beads or their primarily expanded ones of 0.8- 0.25mm size, contg. 3-8 wt.% of a blowing agent, with a sucrose mono-, di-, or tri-ester (or its derivative) of formula I [R1, R2 and R3 ave each H or group of formula II (R is a higher fatty acid ester residue); they are not H at the same time]. Said sucrose ester (or its derivative) is preferably applied in an amount, based on the beads, of 0.005-0.5 (especially 0.01-0.10) wt.% The molded product manufactured from the above beads, such as a food container, does not show any water penetration through its wall even with such a reduced thickness as to be two or three times the beads size. |
