CATALYST FOR HYDROGENATION OF HYDROCARBON AND ITS PREPARATION

PURPOSE:To provide a hydrogenation catalyst simple in structure and inexpensive to manufacture without requiring any preliminary sulfurating treatment by depositing the mercaptocarboxylate having the SH radical of sulfurating agent, together with a water-soluble compound of active metals, on a carrier. CONSTITUTION:A catalyst carrier consisting chiefly of the oxide or hydrated oxide of aluminum such as gamma-alumina and boehmite is impregnated with the solution containing a water-soluble compound of the group VI metal in the periodic table such as molybdenum and tungsten and the group VIII metal such as cobalt and nickel and the mercaptocarboxylate represented by the general formula HS-(CH2)n-COOR (wherein n is an integer of 1-3 and R is an alkyl radical containing 1-10 carbon atoms) such as mercaptoethyl acetate. The subsequent drying process leads to the formation of a hydrogenation catalyst for hydrocarbons simple in structure and inexpensive to manufacture without requiring any preliminary sulfurating treatment.
