The tube is located on the bottom of a casting vessel contg. molten metal, e.g. a ladle, so the bottom end of the tube is immersed in molten metal in a second, lower vessel, e.g. a tundish underneath the ladle. The tube is fitted in a holder mounted on one end of a lever fitted on a pivot. A work cylinder (WC) drives the lever so the casting tube can be moved from a horizontal position (a) to a vertical position (b) underneath the bottom outlet hole in the ladle. The pref. swivel mounting includes a slide driven horizontally by a second WC; on the slide is the first WC and the lever holding the casting tube. When the slide is driven, the casting tube can be moved along a horizontal plane. The casting tube can be used to prevent molten metal spray reaching the human workers, but the tube can be swivelled to position (a) near the end of pouring for visual observation of the molten metal stream; in this way, the stream can be cut off by the ladle stopper when slag is observed.
|
