A plug-and-socket electrical connector comprises a socket containing two parts positioned axially the one behind the other, the front part, nearest the plug, being an insulating bush holder 6 containing contact bushes 15, each bush 15 being symmetrically double-ended with two bores facing in opposite directions, the bushes 15 being contained removable in the bush holder 6 so that each bush 15 can be withdrawn from the bush holder 6 and then reinstalled reversed in position through 180 DEG , or removed and replaced by a new bush. The back part, furthest from the plug, is an insulating pin holder 5.2 containing contact pins 12. The pin holder 5.2 is a replica of a pin holder 5.1 contained in the plug of the connector. The pins 12 of the pin holder 5.2 contained in the socket occupy the back bores, furthest from the plug, of the double-ended bushes 15. <IMAGE>
