A block of thermally insulating material comprising high temperature resistant fibres has one face (22) in contact with a support. The material is formed in superposed layers, which are folded in concertina fasion. The block is fixed by an elongated metal plate (1) which has two spaced barbs extending in opposite directions. The plate has an opening through which one end of a screw threaded stud (7) passes, the plate being secured by a nut (15'). The plate is disposed in a plane parallel to face (22) and the stud lies in a plane (25) between adjacent layers of the material.
