[Also in Divisions D1-D2] A tyre cord comprises at least two strands, each strand comprising a bunch of wires, and each wire being of less than 0À004 inch. The wires may be of steel and may be plated with another metal, for example brass. The strands may be untwisted bunches of wires, or bunches twisted about their own axes. The strands may be laid around each other or around a core. The cord may be spirally wrapped with a metal wire or textile filament or yarn. One method of making the cord comprises assembling at least two bunches of wires, twisting the bunches of wires individually in one direction of twist and twisting together the twisted bunches in the opposite direction of twist. The individual bunches may be twisted to a degree which is equal and opposite to that which the twisted bunches are twisted together.</p> |
