1429489 Reciprocating pumps BENDIX WESTINGHOUSE Ltd 14 Aug 1974 [13 Sept 1973] 43161/73 Heading F1A A pump e.g. for injecting anti-freeze liquid into an air braking system, comprises a plunger 9 connected to an air-pressure actuated piston 6 and movable through a seal 18 to discharge liquid from a chamber 19 via check valve 20, the plunger moving out of seal 18 on its return stroke to permit entry of liquid into chamber 19 from reservoir 4 via port 22. Air inlet port 13 is connected to a compressor so that starting the compressor causes injection of a charge of anti-freeze, the quantity injected being adjustable by a nut 15 on piston rod 14, a spring 8 effecting the return stroke. In Fig. 2 (not shown), the piston and plunger assembly extends axially through the reservoir, an additional seal (110) is provided around the plunger and the liquid inlet ports (122) are provided adjacent the seal 18. |
