PURPOSE:To prepare polypropylene having a high specific gravity with a low atactic polypropylene content in a high yield per unit weight of catalyst, by polymerizing propylene partially and subsequently, using a speficic catalyst. CONSTITUTION:Prpylene is partially polymerized by using a catalyst comprising one mole of a highly active titanium trichloride and obout 2-20 moles of a dialkylauminum monochloride at about -10-90 deg.C and 10<-2>-10 kg/cm<2> to give a polymer in an amount of about 1-500 grams per gram of TiCl3. The resulting prepolymer composition is then incoporated with about 2-20 times the molar amount of TiCl3 of a dialkylaluminum monochloride and about 0.1-2 times the molar amount of a >=2C trialkylamine, and subsequently polymerized by adding propylene at about 50-100 deg.C and 1-100 kg/cm<2>. Polymer can be obtained in a yield of 10,000 or more times the unit weight of TiCl3. |
