Rotor disc coupling for gas turbine compressor - uses two sets of bolts to join two disc groups economically

A first group of rotor discs (1-8) on the input end of the compressor in each case ha a circular arrangement of axially-directed engaging splines elements (36). A second group of discs (9-18) has smooth surfaces brought into frictional contact by force. A first set of bolts (40) passes through the first group of discs and clamps them together while a second bolt set (46) similarly couples the second disc group. The set also passes through one disc (8) of the first group so that the two disc groups are coupled together. The design minimises losses of compressed air.
