The dishwasher which includes a conveyor belt (2) for the dishes being washed and an automatic unloading, stacking and dispensing mechanism for the washed dishes is also provided with an elevator belt (6) mounted at the reversal end of the main conveyor belt (2). This elevator belt (6) which runs perpendicularly upwards is provided with entrainment members (7) which are adapted to swivel downwards whereupon they release the plates (4) in order to form a stack (9) adjacent a further conveyor belt (10) which is located above the main conveyor belt (2) and passes on the stacked dishes (4). An unloading device (12) is mounted at the end of the second conveyor belt (10) and is connected with a further conveyor belt (11) which is located beneath the upper belt (10) and leads to a supply or storage station for the plates.
