<p>The mast may be utilised to support overhead transmission lines and is fixed or built in at the base. It is compounded to obtain three dimensional space framed masts with enhanced structural properties. A typical compounded mast may comprise three circular hollow section members, connected by ring straps at vertical intervals and obtaining a triangular section. The members may be at fixed centres or the centres may reduce uniformly with mast height. The head fittings to which the overhead lines attach may also be adapted to connect to the individual members and utilise their structural potential.</p> |
