Multicomponent mixture separation - by elutriation in funnel with extraction on different levels

A mixt. contg. alumina and silicate components is sepd. by adding water and by elutriation in a conical funnel. Silicates and/or Ca and/or Mg components form floating layer above the alumina and can be extracted through separate outflow pipes at different levels. This results in a simple and effective separation with clear cut points for the different components. Alumina of up to 95% concn. can be produced. Used for washing of alumina and other components from metalliferous slags.
