The electron microscope has its supports designed to eliminate the effects of ground vibration on resolution and its damaging effect on the microscope's barrel. The barrel (1a) is supported by a triple-arm pyramid- or cone-shaped structure (5) and is rigidly fixed to it. The structure and barrel are in turn rigidly fixed to a platform (2). The platform is mounted on three pillars (3) rising from a massive foundation (4). The control console (1b) is mounted on a second platform or floor (8) which is supported by rubber vibration dampers (9) on the foundation.
