The therapeutic and medical diagnostic apparatus using stimulation pulses, has a backwards and forwards digital counter (4) for a staircase voltage (25) from a staircase generator (7) and to operate a display (6) for the amplitude of the peak flow current amplitude at the output for the patient. This system supplies a current when a forward or backward button is pressed to control an amplifier to determine the control current and hence the peak value current for the patient. A comparator (14) then indicates too high a negative or positive value difference between the control current and the output current.
