Casting of metals into moulds, where definite amounts of metal have to be dispensed in rapid succession, employs an electromagnetic pump for the melt. The molten metal is held in a holding furnace, to which is attached an arm, the highest point of which is below the lowest level to which th emetl is allowed to fall in the storage furnace, a further arm at a higher level being connected to the lower arm, the lowest level in this higher casting channel arm, must be above the maximum metal level in the holding chamber. The pump is powered by an a.c. current. |
