PROCESS FOR PREPARATION OF SOLID PHASE DISPERSION OF ORGANO-SELENIUM OUNDS IN A RESIN

A process is disclosed for the preparation of a solid phase dispersion of inorganic photoconductive materials in an insulating polymeric matrix. A polymeric composition is formed from a film forming insulating polymeric resin and an organoselenium compound which is capable of undergoing selective decomposition in response to a source of energy stimulus. The polymeric composition so formed is subjected to the stimulus whereby elemental selenium is extruded and deposited within the polymeric composition in conformity with the distribution of the stimulus throughout the composition. The stimulus may be in the form of ultraviolet light, visible light or an electron beam or any other means which is effective to bring about selective decomposition of the polymeric composition. Because the extrusion and decomposition of the elemental selenium may be performed selectively, it is possible to prepare binder films having photoconductive image patterns which are suitable for use in xerography.
