Transparent polyester yarn with low friction coeff. was prepd. by transesterifying difuncional carboxylic acid and glycol in the presence of 0.5-1.5 mol. % of one or more carhoxylate salts or hydroxides of Li, Mg, Ca, and Zn followed by polycondensation of the transesterified monomers in the presence of a less than 1-1.5 equiv. P compd. such as phosphoric acid, phosphorous acid, their aryl esters, or hypophosphorous acid.
