Electrostatic printer with drum having chargeable surfaces - has each surface connected to switch for charging voltage supply

An electrostatic printer has a drum (1) whose surface is divided into a mosaic of chargeable surfaces (2). Each surface is connected to a switch (5). When during rotation of the drum the surface faces the charging station (I) the switch connects the surface to the charging voltage (4). When the surface faces respective stations (II, III) for attracting ionised ink particles and for printing, the switch is opened. The surface may pass through a station (IV) for removal of ink remnants where the switch is closed and the polarity is reversed.
