<p>Polyesters are prepd by reacting (A) a dicarboxylic acid and/or ester-forming deriv. contg. is not 50 (is not 70), esp. is not 90 moles % of a napthalene dicarboxylic acid, (B) an aromatic diol contg. is not 50 moles % of a cpd of formula (I) (where n=2-6) and (C) HO-R-OH, (where R is a 2-12C (cyclo)aliphatic gp) in molar ratio B:A of 0.05-1:1, and B+C:A of 1.1-3:1. The reaction prod is polymerised in the presence of a catalyst, while distilling off excess (C) to give a polymer with reduced viscosity is not 0.5 (at 35 degrees C, as 1.2 g/dl soln in o-chlorophenol). The polyesters are used for films and moulded goods. The polymers have high heat stability, high 2nd order transition temp. good mechanical properties and chemical resistance, and are transparent.</p> |
