<p>The hydraulic shock absorber incorporates an accelerometric mechanism to provide a differential damping effect. The unit absorbs the relative oscillation of two different masses (4, 5). The sliding piston delineates two working chambers (7, 8) connected by valved (11, 12) passages (9, 10). The accelerometric mechanism is activated by oscillation of the lesser mass (5) and effects a rapid communication between the two chambers (7, 8). The mechanism may incorporate a movable block (17) which is built into the piston (2). Displacement of the lesser mass (5) causes the block (17) to move relative to the piston (2) instantly opening the valves (11) which are normally operated by fluid pressures.</p> |
