The air conditioning unit for the car has a modular design which slides into a recess under the dashboard and which has locating ducts which match up with air ducts inside the car. The whole unit is fitted in one simple operation. The back of the unit has a mixing chamber which mates up with the fresh air inlet duct while the sides have outlet ducts to match up with the distribution ducts. The sides of the recess are reinforced by ribs which serve a sliding guides.
