PURPOSE:To prepare a D-alpha-amino acid useful as a raw material of pharmaceuticals, by the hydrolysis of 5-substituted hydantoin with bacteria having D-alpha-amino acid- converting capability and belonging to Achromobacter or Alcaligenes genus. CONSTITUTION:Bacteria capable of converting 5-substituted hydantoin to D-alpha- amino acid, belonging to Achromobacter or Alcaligenes genus, e.g. Achromobacter liquefaciens AJ 11198 (FERM-P No.4228), Alcaligenes aquamarinus AJ 11199 (FERM-P No.4229), etc., or their treated products are brought into contact with 5-substituted hydantoin, or the above bacterial are cultured in a medium containing 5-substituted hydantoin, to obtain the D-alpha-amino acid. |
