To furnish a knitting point in a circular knitting machine with a yarn consisting of two or more component yarns twisted about each other, component yarns withdrawn from at least two individual coils or packages are, during their transit from said coils to the knitting point, subjected to the action of a twisting tool the rotation of which is reversed periodically. To prevent or reduce untwisting of the yarn caused by equalization between yarn portions having opposed twists, the yarn leaving the twisting tool is gripped by gripping members e.g. pads 35 on belts 34 which travel with the yarn or by moving belts whose whole surface is covered with foam rubber. If the twisting tool is placed sufficiently close to the knitting point, no other gripping members than the needles of the knitting machines are required. <IMAGE> |
