The self-cleansing silt-removal system is for utilisation at dammed (1) reservoirs which are periodically emptied e.g. irrigation reservoirs in developing countries. The system requires the cutting of a large number of parallel channels (8) in the bed of the impounding basin (2). The channels (8) follow the general direction of the flow during emptying, and attract sediment when the reservoir is full. The reservoir is empties by the prolonged opening of sluices, causing the scouring of the sediment from the channels (8). The channels may be of a 'V' section and at least one channel cuts through each meander of the natural channel (3). The bed of the impounding basin may be subdivided into longitudinal zones which each zone allocated a series of straight parallel channels.
|
